One year after Real Madrid defeated Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final, the two sides meet again in European competition. This season, the local rivals will have to contest two legs, and the first leg of their semifinal takes place on Tuesday.

Real Madrid is without the services of Gareth Bale, who picked up an injury in the last round of the tournament. He’s been replaced by Isco, who gives Los Merengues a bit of a different look. They’ll have less pace going forward, but more ability to keep the ball in midfield.

These teams have met twice already this season, with Real getting the better of their noisy neighbors. They won the first match of the season away at the Vicente Calderon, then drew 1-1 in the most recent meeting between the two teams.

That’s not a bad sign for Atléti, though. They wouldn’t mind a repeat of their 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu — that would give them a solid platform to advance heading into the second leg.

Lineups

Real Madrid starting lineup (4-3-3): Keylor Navas; Marcelo, Raphaël Varane, Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal; Luka Modrić, Casemiro, Toni Kroos; Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Isco.

Atlético Madrid starting lineup (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Filipe Luís, Stefan Savić, Diego Godín, Lucas Hernández; Koke, Gabi, Saúl Ñíguez, Yannick Carrasco; Kévin Gameiro, Antoine Griezmann.
