We’ll have to wait until Sunday’s games to get any idea of who will finish on top of Group B in the Confederations Cup. Germany and Chile traded first-half goals, but played defensively in the second, ultimately settling for a 1-1 draw that leaves both teams on four points.
Germany vs. Chile: Final score 1-1, nothing decided in Confederations Cup after even game
The first half had action, while the second half had fouls.

Chile got on the board early, making the most of a mistake by Shkodran Mustafi. His confusion might have been partially due to Joachim Löw switching to a back three, something Die Mannschaft hasn’t done very often. He turned the ball over to Arturo Vidal, who found Alexis Sanchez in the box, and Mustafi’s Arsenal teammate finished off the play.
The Germans were lucky not to go behind by two goals when Eduardo Vargas hit the crossbar in the 20th minute, and they’d go on to take advantage of their good fortune with a 41st minute equalizer. Lars Stindl finished off a great team move, started with a burst forward by Emre Can and a pass out wide for Jonas Hector, who crossed for Stindl to finish from six yards out.
During the second half, both teams appeared to be concerned with the counter-attacking threat that the other could pose — rightfully so — and took fewer risks. They also kicked each other quite a bit to stifle attacking rhythm — Germany finished the match with 14 fouls, and Chile with 19.
Chile currently leads the group with a one-goal advantage over Germany. They’ll be in a race to score more than the other during their Sunday games in bids to avoid Portugal in the semifinals.
