Ecuador are currently close to South America’s playoff spot, sitting just two points behind Argentina. But a loss here and wins elsewhere for other CONMEBOL teams could prove disastrous for their hopes of making the World Cup, especially with two of Ecuador’s next three matches coming against Argentina and Chile.
Of course, a win over Brazil is far from a guarantee, with the seleção only losing once in their 14 qualifying matches so far, and only drawing three times. It’s a steep mountain that Ecuador have to climb to keep their World Cup dreams alive — but if we’ve learned anything about them the last few years, it’s that they’ll never stop fighting for their dreams.
