Sometimes the Champions League Round of 16 can be a little shy of top-quality matchups, with most of the best teams seeded in such a way that they avoid each other until at least the quarterfinal round.

That’s not the case this year, with Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur bringing us a tie that, at least on paper, looks like it should be downright excellent to watch.

Tottenham have been one of the most fun clubs in Europe this summer when they’ve been healthy and in form, as they are right now. Harry Kane can score freely and easily, they’ve got a high-quality midfield to support him, and their defense is top-notch. More than that, manager Mauricio Pochettino has his team well-drilled in a fluid, forward-thinking style of play that’s been a welcome sight to see compared to more conservative teams we often see coming from England into continental competition.

Juventus are certainly known to be conservative at times under Max Allegri, but they’re also capable of playing some fantastic football at times. When Gonzalo Higuain, Paulo Dybala, and Juventus’ deep cast of supporting attacking talent are in form, they’re a difficult team to slow down.

But them being in form hasn’t been a consistent thing this season, and with their defense aging and not putting up quite the intimidating figure it once did, they’re a little more vulnerable than they were as the team that made two of the last three Champions League finals. But on their day, they’re still one of the best teams in Europe, and they’re going to be a steep, steep challenge for Tottenham to get past, especially in Turin.
