Manchester City have been on a steady rise in quality and standing, and with the blue side of Manchester starting to run away with the Premier League title, it’s time for them to finally try to find some European success to add to their resume, hopefully starting with this Champions League Round of 16 tie against Swiss side FC Basel.

Now, that’s not to say that Basel are a pushover. They’re a tough team to play at home, with a win over Manchester United during the group stage at St. Jakob Park, as well as a 5-0 win over Benfica at home. There were very little expectations in the group stage for them, but they rose to the occasion and then some with four wins to finish second place in a difficult group.

But Manchester City are better than any of the teams Basel faced in the group stage by a fair margin. They dominated a group that included Napoli and a surprisingly tough Shakhtar Donetsk, and, oh yeah, they’re running away with arguably the most talented domestic league in Europe right now. Pep Guardiola has his team absolutely cruising, and they’re not going to take a minute off in the Champions League as they chase real European legitimacy with a hopeful title run.
