Neymar out for the rest of PSG’s season, but should be healthy for Brazil at World Cup

A broken foot will keep Neymar sidelined until Brazil training camp convenes.

Neymar has a broken foot, and looks likely to miss the rest of the season for Paris Saint-Germain. However, Brazil fans don’t need to worry — Neymar is expected to be healthy just in time for the start of the Selecao’s training camp for the World Cup.

The Brazilian superstar was stretchered off during PSG’s derby match against Marseille on Sunday. PSG manager Unai Emery initially said that there was a small chance Neymar could play in Champions League against Real Madrid on Tuesday. But after PSG and Brazil’s doctors met on Wednesday, they determined that surgery was necessary, and Neymar would miss 10-to-12 weeks. That will end his club season, but shouldn’t affect his chances of playing in Russia this summer.

This is unlikely to have much affect on PSG’s season either. The Parisians are running away with the Ligue 1 title, and have little chance of staying in Champions League after losing the first round of their Round of 16 tie against Real Madrid at home.

Brazil plays two friendly matches in March, against Russia and Germany, It has not yet scheduled its pre-World Cup friendlies, but it will almost certainly schedule a couple of exhibitions that Neymar can use to get back to full fitness. Neymar and co. open their World Cup campaign on June 17 against Switzerland.
