The CONCACAF Champions League has been a brutal slugfest of a competition so far, and this quarterfinal tie between Toronto FC and Tigres UANL promises to be every bit as intense and rough as it as the potential to be.

Toronto will have high hopes coming into this tie, but Tigres won’t back down from this challenge.

Tigres have been on a roll, flying up to third in the LigaMX Clausura table while in the midst of a seven-match unbeaten streak in all competitions. They dispatched Costa Rican side Herediano with relative ease in the CCL round of 16, riding out a draw away before thrashing their foes at home. Their well-balanced side, lead by a fearsome trio of Edu Vargas, Eder Valencia, and Andre Gignac in attack and supported by a deep an diverse midfield, is going to be a big threat to make a deep run in the Champions League this season, and Toronto are going to be hard-pressed to stop them.
But the Reds are riding high thanks to winning the MLS Cup last season, and their own attacking spearhead of Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore is nothing to take lightly. With their own tough-nosed midfield and defense to bring to the fray, they have the potential to upset the balance of things and send Tigres home well before many expect them to. It’s not going to be an easy fight, but if they can come out swinging and use their home field advantage at BMO Field in the first leg, they might just be able to tip things in their favor. Whether or not they can, there’s going to be one hell of a fight in Toronto on Wednesday night, and it’s going to be fun to watch.
