Coutinho scores Brazil’s first goal of this World Cup with a stunner

What is Switzerland’s goalie supposed to do about this?

Brazil entered the 2018 World Cup as one of the favorites, and for good reason — they’re incredibly deep and talented. One of those very talented players they have is Phillippe Coutinho, the Barcelona attacker who was just bought from Liverpool for $100 million, and someone — to give you an idea of the depth of this team — whom it wasn’t clear if he was even going to start at this World Cup.

He started the first game against Switzerland. And then he went and did this:

If you’re Switzerland goalie Yann Sommer, what exactly are you supposed to do with that?

I guess you could make the argument that the Swiss defender shouldn’t have cleared the ball directly to Coutinho’s feet, but man, he’s still got to deal with a bouncing ball 20 yards out on the left edge of the box.

He did deal with it. And then he put the thing off the post and in.

Brazil are so good. Teams should be very afraid of them. That’s all.
