The 49ers entered the season with plenty of excitement around Jimmy Garoppolo in his first full season as a starter, but a slew of injuries including a season-ending knee injury to Garoppolo has sapped the excitement out of this group.
Backup quarterback C.J. Beathard injured his wrist in last Sunday’s 18-15 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, which could pave the way for third-stringer Nick Mullens to get the start against Oakland if he is unable to go. San Francisco enters Thursday’s action with a 1-7 SU and 2-6 ATS record on the year.
In their last 13 games as a betting favorite, the 49ers are 5-8 SU and 1-12 ATS per the OddsShark NFL Database.
Oakland Raiders
Just one season removed from a 2016 campaign that saw the Raiders go 12-4 SU, the pieces seemed to be in place for new head coach Jon Gruden to step in and make this team competitive.
Instead, Gruden has blown it up, trading away Khalil Mack this offseason and Amari Cooper at the trade deadline. The 1-6 SU and 2-4 ATS Raiders rank 27th in the NFL in scoring with 19.7 points per game and 31st in scoring defense allowing 31.1 points per game. Oakland has lost its last six games on the road.
Thursday night’s total is set at 45.5 points. The UNDER is 11-3 in Oakland’s last 14 games.
Perhaps when these two teams next meet in 2022, Jimmy Garoppolo will be one of the biggest stars in the league and Jon Gruden will have successfully rebuilt the Raiders into a Super Bowl contender. Here in 2018, however, the final “Battle of the Bay” before the Raiders move to Las Vegas figures to be quite the dud.
