Cleveland Browns
The 2018 Browns are a tough group to figure out. From one perspective, they still look like the hapless Browns that went 0-16 last year, finding unique ways to fail to win their first two games in not taking advantage of six turnovers in a 21-21 tie against Pittsburgh and then missing two field goals including one that would have sent last week’s 21-18 loss to New Orleans into overtime.
From another perspective though, they have pushed two playoff contenders to the brink. Facing a winnable game at home Thursday should give us all a better idea of what this Cleveland team really is.
Over their last 44 games, the Browns are just 11-31-1 ATS per the OddsShark NFL Database.
New York Jets
Unlike the Browns who are forcing Baker Mayfield to sit on the bench in favor of Tyrod Taylor, the Jets are letting their future franchise quarterback learn from experience.
As expected it has been a mixed bag for Sam Darnold, who was strong in a 48-17 road win over Detroit in Week 1 and shaky in last Sunday’s 20-12 home loss to the Miami Dolphins. New York is a perfect 5-0 SU and ATS in its last five games against the Browns.
Thursday night’s total is set at 39.5 points. The UNDER is 11-3 in Cleveland’s last 14 games at home.
What could have been an exciting rookie quarterback dual between Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield is instead a bit of a dud of a prime time game. Cleveland has played well enough to win in each of its last two games, but until the Browns can find a way to close out games the losses will continue to pile up.
