The city of Detroit will host a PGA Tour event for the first time in its history this weekend in the brand new Rocket Mortgage Classic. Dustin Johnson is the biggest name featured in the field this weekend and he enters the tournament as the favorite to win it all.

Dustin Johnson leads the pack on the betting lines at the sportsbooks heading into the first ever Rocket Mortgage Classic this weekend.

Johnson is a huge favorite at +550 on the Rocket Mortgage Classic odds in Detroit at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. With very few of the established top golfers in the PGA Tour participating in this event, Johnson’s status as the clear favorite is justified. His form has been inconsistent of late however; in his last six PGA Tour appearances, Johnson has finished in second place twice (in the Masters and the PGA Championship) and in 20th place or worse in the other four.
Bettors paying this price will be banking on getting Johnson at his best.
The tier right below Dustin Johnson on the betting board includes Hideki Matsuyama (+1200 to win the Rocket Mortgage Classic), Rickie Fowler (+1200) and Gary Woodland (+1400).
Matsuyama has four top 10 finishes this season including a tied-for-eight place finish in THE PLAYERS Championship and a sixth place finish in the Memorial Tournament. The Japanese pro has five career wins on the PGA Tour and eight career international wins; he is more than capable of picking up another victory in this light field.
Rickie Fowler will have to wait until next month in the Open to get another crack at his first major title, but in the meantime he can look for more success on the Tour. Fowler has five top 10 finishes this season including a win in the Phoenix Open and a runner-up finish in the Honda Classic.
Like Johnson however, Fowler enters this tournament out of form with two finishes outside of the top 35 and a missed cut over his last four tournaments.
Woodland will try to follow up his masterful performance in his U.S. Open win with another strong showing this weekend. The 35-year-old has played well this season with eight top 10 finishes through his first 18 tournaments.
Other potential contenders to win the Rocket Mortgage Classic on the golf odds include Chez Reavie (+2500), Brandt Snedeker (+2800), Ryan Moore (+2800), Billy Horschel (+3000), Patrick Reed (+3000), Kevin Kisner (+3300), Bubba Watson (+3500) and Sungjae Im (+3500). In a field this wide open, there may be some good value on some of these players and those even further down the board.
