David Ferrer is already through to the semifinals of the ATP World Tour Finals, but his match against Tomas Berdych is still a massive one. If Ferrer wins, he’ll finish round robin play at 3-0 and likely avoid Roger Federer in the semifinals. If a player is able to win the tournament undefeated, they double their purse.
Ferrer Vs. Berdych, ATP World Tour Finals 2011: Novak Djokovic Needs Ferrer To Win Big
Completely independent of his self-interest, Ferrer also needs to win for Novak Djokovic to progress. Djokovic is only 1-2 after his loss to Janko Tipsarevic, but will go through to the semifinals on tiebreakers if Ferrer is able to defeat Tomas Berdych. That won’t be an easy task, as Berdych is playing well. He took Djokovic to a third set tiebreak on the first day, then defeated Tipsarevic in the second round of matches.
The match is the last match of the day at the O2 Arena in London, not starting before 3 pm ET, 8 pm GMT.
