French Open 2011: Men’s Draw Lays Tough Path For Rafael Nadal And Novak Djokovic

The men’s draw has been set for the French Open 2011, with first-round play set to begin at Roland Garros this Sunday, May 22. As so often seems the case in Paris, it’s a bit of a luckless day for the Americans, with Andy Roddick withdrawing late Thursday night (along with Juan Carlos Ferro, both nursing shoulder injuries) and unseeded John Isner drawing No. 1 Rafael Nadal in his first-round match.

Nadal himself will have no cakewalk, with a possible meeting with Robin Söderling in the quarters, a match that would re-stage last year’s Roland Garros men’s final. Second-seeded Novak Djokovic fares little better, drawing Thiemo De Bakker in Round 1 and sharing a bracket with Richard Gasquet and Juan Martin del Potro.

Fans of the injured Andy Murray, take heart: The World No. 4 gets a qualifier for his opening match, which may give him a bit of a breather to rest a rumored groin injury.

French Open 2011 play begins in Paris on Sunday, May 22. Track your favorite players at Roland Garros with our full 2011 French Open TV schedule.
