French Open 2011 TV Schedule: Sunday Coverage Begins At 5 A.M.

The 2011 French Open gets underway on Sunday as the first wave of first round matches get started at Roland Garros. Coverage begins bright and early as the Tennis Channel ushers in the French Open at 5 a.m. EDT on Sunday morning. Throughout the tournament, three different networks will alternate coverage, with broadcast windows split between NBC, ESPN/ESPN2 and the Tennis Channel.

The men’s and women’s draws were set on Friday, giving us an idea of what a few of the favorites are up against. The men’s draw can be found here and the women’s draw can be found here.

On the men’s side, Rafael Nadal begins his French Open journey with a match against unseeded American John Isner. Novak Djokovic opens the tournament against Thiemo De Bakker in the first round and faces a tough path to the finals. The two have developed quite the rivalry lately, and if they can survive to meet in the finals at Roland Garros, it could be a classic.

Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki drew Kimiko Date-Krumm on the women’s side. 2010 champion Francesca Schiavone drew American Francesca Schiavone to begin the tournament, leaving her with only slim hopes of living to fight a second day. Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova landed on the same side of the bracket, as well.

Coverage begins at 5 a.m. on the Tennis Channel and runs until 1 p.m. ESPN2 picks up the broadcast at 1 p.m. EDT and will continue its broadcast until 6:30 p.m. A full look at the schedule for the entire French Open can be found here.
