• No. 3 Vera Zvonareva def. Lourdes Dominguez Lino, 6-3 6-3.
A talent-packed quater got no sparser as Zvonareva cruised to Round 2 in straight sets. Her next opponent: Germany’s Sabine Lisicki.
• No. 5 Francesca Schiavone def. Melanie Oudin, 6-2 6-0.
Oudin and John Isner are cosmic American partners in horrible draw luck this year at Roland Garros. On marches defending champ Schiavone to face Vesna Dolonts of Russia.
In other American news, Jill Craybas beat Eleni Daniilidou, 6-3 6-3, while Christina McHale fell to Sara Errani, 6-7(4) 6-2 9-7, and Coco Dandeweghe was defeated by No. 25 Maria Kirilenko, 7-6(5) 6-2. Other scores from Day 2's seeded players:
