French Open 2011 results from Day 11 at Roland Garros, where the men’s semifinals field is set.
French Open 2011 Results: Rafael Nadal And Andy Murray Through To Semis
• No. 1 Rafael Nadal def. No. 5 Robin Söderling, 6-4 6-1 7-6(3).
In sharp contrast to the scattershot women’s field at Roland Garros, the French Open 2011 will feature a men’s semifinal round featuring the top four seeds in the world. The fifth-seeded Söderling, who you might recall is the only man ever to get past Rafa in Paris, put on what looked like a less-than-valiant appearance, but really: There’s no beating Nadal when he wakes up and decides to play at the top of his game. Despite a close third set (played by a sauntering Rafa amid complaints from Söderling about the time he takes to preen between points), everybody’s favorite grizzled Swede was never spiritually ahead on Court Philippe Chatrier.
• No. 4 Andy Murray def. Juan Ignacio Chela, 7-6(2) 7-5 6-2.
Meanwhile, on Court Suzanne Lenglen, the only remaining unseeded player has been ousted by Andy Murray, not so luckless today (though he’ll need a fair pinch of it to compete with Rafa in the semis). Murray’s injured ankle didn’t appear to be impeding his movement quite so much today, but a straight-sets victory is just the thing he needs right now. It’s the Scot’s first semifinals berth at Roland Garros in his six-year pro career.
Play on Day 12 of the 2011 French Open commences at 8 a.m. EDT Thursday with the women’s semifinals, airing on ESPN2. Get live scores at Roland Garros’ official website, and watch matches online for free on ESPN3.
