French Open 2011: Roger Federer Takes First Set From Novak Djokovic In Tiebreak

Whatever result you might expect from the second French Open 2011 semifinals match at Roland Garros today, do not expect Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to wrap things up in any sort of hurry. After a neck-and-neck first set in which Federer took a 7-5 tiebreaker, the two are battling back and forth from deuce on Game 1 of the second set on Court Philippe Chatrier. There are perhaps two more hours of usable daylight in this part of Paris; it’s entirely possible the conclusion of this competition could push back (and regrettably overshadow) the women’s final tomorrow.

It’s the first time these two have met at Roland Garros, believe it or not, and court conditions are far from ideal, so expect the longtime rivals to need more time than usual to feel each other out today. And remember: Though Djokovic is a bare handful of match victories away from besting John McEnroe’s all-time win streak record, the last time he lost a match, any match, was to Federer last November. We’re still very much in the “anything could happen” stage here.

Stay tuned to this StoryStream for match updates from Day 13 at Roland Garros 2011.
