Rogers Cup Replaces Poster, Slogan After Sexism Charge

Canada’s biggest women’s tennis tournament, The Rogers Cup, kicks off August 6. To promote the event, which features some of the world’s top female tennis players, promoters put together a poster that didn’t seem to exactly jive with the message some fans want to hear.

“Come for the ladies, stay for the legends,” is meant to reference the fact that, along with the normal WTA event, there will also be a four-man legends tournament featuring John McEnroe and Andre Agassi. As you might imagine, Women’s groups complained about the slogan and poster, which sexifies the female players while also implying that the “ladies” can’t be legends.

The slogan and poster have since been changed to “making history, re-living history.“
