No. 3 seed Roger Federer cruised to the third round of the 2011 U.S. Open with a straight set win over Israel’s Dudi Sela at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Thursday.
Roger Federer Advances To 2011 U.S. Open 3rd Round Easily
The five-time U.S. Open champion scored six aces with his serve, which topped out at 128 MPH, and won on 88 percent of his first serve in defeating Sela 6-3 6-2 6-2 in 117 minutes.
Federer will face the winner of Thursday’s match between No. 27 Marin Cilic and 18-year-old Australian Bernard Tomic, who took Cilic to five sets during the third round of the 2010 Australian Open and is proving to be a hard draw in majors in 2011. Tomic advanced to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and lost to World No. 1 Rafael Nadal in the third round of the Australian Open.
