Australian Open 2012, Caroline Wozniaki: World No. 1 Has Tough Road
Wozniacki, who lost in the semifinals here in 2011, her highest finish at the event, could eventually face third-seeded Belarussian Victoria Azarenka, who opens against Britian’s Heather Watson.
The women’s draw for the Australian Open was revealed on Friday and Wozniacki could face last year’s runner-up Li Na, the fifth seed, in the quarterfinals in Melbourne.
The reigning French Open champion Li has beaten Wozniacki in their last three meetings, all in Australia.
Wozniacki, meanwhile, could meet 13th-seeded former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic in the fourth round, while Li’s fourth-round opponent could be reigning Aussie Open champ and former No. 1 star Kim Clijsters, who topped the Chinese slugger in last year’s Down Under finale. Clijsters is also a three- time U.S. Open champ.
