Milos Raonic has won the second title of his young career, besting Janko Tipsarevic 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) in the final of the 2012 Chennai Open. Raonic hit an incredible 35 aces in the match and neither man was able to break the other’s serve. The 21-year-old Canadian is currently ranked No. 31 in the world and should get a nice boost after besting three higher seeded players for the title, including No. 1 seed and world No. 9 Tipsarevic.
Chennai Open 2012 Final Results: Milos Raonic Wins Second Career Title
“Tipsarevic took it away in the first set, but I took my opportunities in the second and third,” said Raonic after the match. “My serve is a big factor in my game ... in 99 percent of my matches. My job is to take care of my serve.”
This is the sixth career final loss for Tipsarevic, who competed in the 2011 ATP World Tour finals. "Guys like Milos are special players," said Tipsarevic. "It was a great game of tennis. Nobody knew till the end who would win. Unluckily for me it was I who lost. It was just a matter of a few points here and there. Hopefully the next time I will get the better of him.''
Both players are now expected to take a week off before the 2012 Australian Open in two weeks.
