Wimbledon 2012 Scores: Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams Advance In Straight Sets

Rafael Nadal got off to a rough start in his match against Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci, falling behind 3-0 in the first set, but he recovered to win that set in a tiebreak. The other two sets were considerably less eventful as Nadal cruised to a comfortable 7-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Nadal broke Bellucci twice in each set, but couldn’t hold his own serve to start the match. He got just 54 percent of his first serves in, and Bellucci was two-for-two on break points. Nadal’s serve was much better in the last two sets, avoiding a break in the second set and giving up just one in the third set.

Serena Williams was also in action early at Wimbledon and cruised by Barbora Zahlahova in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Williams won the first set easily in 29 minutes, but struggled a bit through the second set as she was broken twice. She’ll play the winner of the match between Johanna Larsson and Melinda Czink in the second round.

In other action, defending women’s champion Petra Kvitova advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Akgul Amanmuradova, while Jo-Wilfried Tsonga dispatched of Lleyton Hewitt 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
