The second round of play continued on the grass courts on Thursday and featured a big win for American men’s player Mardy Fish.

Fish faced English player James Ward in the second round on Thursday and managed to defeat his opponent in five thrilling sets, finally advancing on scores of 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3.

Fish entered the tournament as the No. 10 seed and is playing in his first Grand Slam event since the Australian Open, in which he was eliminated in the second round. Fish is looking strong following a May 23 procedure to correct his heart arrhythmia.

Fish was unable to compete in the French Open this year, citing fatigue. He is attempting to make a run here in Wimbledon and now joins Andy Roddick and Brian Baker among the Americans who are advancing to the third round.
