It took three sets, which was certainly longer than Andy Roddick would have liked. But the American star, aging in tennis terms, fended off John Isner to move on to the finals of the 2012 BB&T Atlanta Open on Saturday night.

Roddick's 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4 semifinal victory over Isner was a result of the only three breaks of the entire match: Roddick got two in the first set, despite a rain delay, and one on an unforced error at his second match point. For the rest of the match, both men's blistering serves ruled, with each earning just one point on first returns in the second set. Isner had 26 aces in the loss, and will pair with Roddick in Olympic doubles tennis.
Roddick will have a chance to see another big server, Gilles Muller, in Sunday’s final. Muller defeated Go Soeda, 6-3, 6-4, after serving up 17 aces and never facing a break point.
