Farmers Classic 2012: First Day Of ATP Tournament In The Books

The 2012 Farmers Classic will take place at UCLA this week. The U.S. Open Series event will be headlined by Sam Querrey and Nicolas Mahut.

Over the course of the next week, the Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA will play host to the 2012 Farmers Classic, an ATP men’s tournament in the U.S. Open Series. On Monday, the final set of qualifying matches was played and the first two matches of the first round wrapped up.

Every singles match for the day wrapped up in straight sets. In the final qualifying matches, Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania defeated Marcel Felder of Uruguay, 6-2, 6-3. American player Nicolas Meister advanced by defeating Jimmy Wang of Taiwan, 6-4, 7-6 (3). Chris Guccione of Australia dispatched Louk Sorenson of Ireland, 6-2, 6-3 and in an all-U.S. match, Bradley Klahn bested Alex Kuznetsov, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2).

In the opening first-round match, Paul Capdeville defeated Igor Kunitsyn, 6-4, 7-6 (5). In the nightcaps, Flavio Cipolla of Italy had little trouble eliminating American Jack Sock, 6-3, 6-1, and Rajeev Ram took out Brian Baker, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.
