Wimbledon 2012: Rodger Federer, Serena Williams Win Again

Age reigned supreme at Wimbledon this year, as two of the sport’s greatest champions -- Roger Federer and Serena Williams -- beat back questions about their advanced years to win yet another major championship.

Both champions are now on the purportedly wrong side of 30 and unquestionably on the downside of their career. This makes major wins like theirs on the weekend even more special. Serena defeated Agnieszka Radwanksa, 23, to win her 14th career major.

Federer, meanwhile, continued to build his case as the greatest tennis player who ever lived, winning his 17th career major and returning to the world’s No. 1 ranking after he had seemingly been overtaken by Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in 2011.

He defeated Andy Murray in the finals, as the 25-year old from Scotland -- widely regarded as the best player never to have won a major -- came up just short in his quest to become the first Englishmen to win at Wimbledon in over 70 years.
