The 2012 U.S. Open is set to kick off on Monday in Flushing, N.Y. with a host of stars looking to bolster their resumes.
2012 U.S. Open: Fourth And Final Major Ready To Go
Serena Williams comes in as an overwhelming favorite to win the tournament, with the Men’s side being more wide open.

Save Rafael Nadal, who had to withdraw due to injury, the headliners will all be competing to finish the year on a high note.
On the Men’s side of things, Roger Federer and Andy Murray look like the main competition standing in Novak Djokovic’s way. If Federer can find a way to win, it would be his sixth championship in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
One underdog who could make a push is Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who has been playing some excellent tennis lately, including at the 2012 London Olympics.
As for the Women, Serena Williams comes in as a heavy favorite at a venue she’s been highly successful at in the past. Williams has won three U.S. Open titles with the most recent being in 2008. The younger of the Williams sisters has a favorable draw to boot, with just ex-No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki posing a serious threat early on.
Maria Sharapova is always in the running, but after the beating she took in London against Williams just weeks ago, it’s tough to make a good case for her.
