After a rain delay was lifted, play resumed at the 2012 U.S. Open. An early and notable performance came from 32-year-old American James Blake, who won his match against Slovakia’s Lukas Lacko.
2012 U.S. Open Tennis Scores: James Blake Defeats Lacko
Blake made the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open in 2005 and 2006 during the prime of his career. He took the first two sets of the match on Tuesday in 7-5 and 6-2 scores before Lacko came back to defeat Blake 6-3 in the third set. In the fourth, Blake recovered to win the match with a 6-3 set to advance past the first round.
Also atop the list of players to watch is Great Britain's Andy Murray. The gold medalist from the 2012 London Olympics and third-seeded player in the tournament took the first set against Alex Bogomolov Jr. with a 6-2 score despite an unusual number of unforced errors.
No. 22 Florian Mayer of Germany and his opponent, American Jack Sock, are underway. Sock won the first set, 6-3.
Of the top players on the women’s side, No. 31 Varvara Lepchenko of the United States and Mathilde Johansson have begun play.
