Roger Federer breezed through the first round of the 2012 U.S. Open, beating Donald Young in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. Federer won in a time of 1:34, going 27 minutes in the first set, 33 in the second and 34 in the third.

Federer won 83% of his first-serve points compared to 56% for Young, and had a decent margin over Young in second-serve points, with 61% to 46%.
Federer was also excellent at the net, winning 19 of 23 net points compared to only 44% for Young. He also served up seven aces (Young had none) and had 27 winners to Young’s 17. Federer had 11 forehand winners and five backhand winners, and really seemed to hem Young in on his backhand, where he had 15 unforced errors.
Federer will move on and face Bjorn Phau from Germany in the second round later this week.
