U.S. Open 2012 Scores: Jack Sock Advances, Will Face Almagro

American Jack Sock advanced to the third round of the 2012 U.S. Open by winning a match against Italy’s Flavio Cipolla on Thursday. The upset of Cipolla, who is ranked No. 87 in the world by ATP, came in dominating sets of 6-2, 6-2 and 6-4.

Power was in favor of the American. His fastest serve turned in was at 135 mph while the 28-year-old Cipolla could only muster a fastest serve of 106. Sock also recorded 15 aces to none by Cipolla.

It only gets harder for Sock, as the next opponent for the youngster will be Nicolas Almagro of Spain. The No. 11 seed in the U.S. Open had a tough match against Philipp Petzschner, beating the German 6-3, 5-7, 5-7, 6-4 and 6-4.

Sock, who is only 19 years old, is ranked 243rd in the world and came into Thursday with a 4-9 record.
