James Blake defeated Spaniard No. 24 Marcel Granollers in the second round of the U.S. Open on Thursday evening.
2012 U.S. Open Tennis Scores: James Blake Upends Marcel Granollers In Straight Sets
Blake won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, in Louis Armstrong Stadium, making quick work of Granollers while only serving two aces throughout the match.
Blake had more unforced errors (22) than Granollers’ 16, but hit 39 winners to Granoller’s 11 and won more than 30 more points overall.
Next up in Round 3 for Blake will be Canadian No. 15 Milos Raonic, who defeated Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu in straight sets, two of which were won in tiebreakers.
Blake was 33 for 41 in net points won, good for 80 percent, and he won more the 78 percent of his points on the first serve, staying in control of the match.
The first set was done in 25 minutes, and Blake never looked back from there, finishing the second and third sets in 34 and 38 minutes, respectively.
