2012 U.S. Open Tennis Scores: American Sam Querrey Drops Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo

Sam Querrey bested Spaniard Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in straight sets in the second round of the U.S. Open on Thursday afternoon.

Querrey, ranked No. 27 in the tournament, smashed 19 aces past Hidalgo, who only served one ace in the contest, en route to the straight set victory, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3, in a match that only lasted around 99 minutes. Additionally, he nailed 43 winners past Hidalgo, who notched 18 of his own. Querrey also won 88 percent of his points on the first serve, a key to his ability in keeping Hidalgo from capturing a set.

Round 3 will offer a stiffer test for Querrey as he faces No. 6 Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, who defeated Jurgen Zopp to advance.

Though Hidalgo had seven less unforced errors than Querrey, the American won 4 out of 8 break points and also had two fewer (4) double faults than Hidalgo.
