2012 U.S. Open Scores: David Ferrer Bests Igor Sijsling In 3 Sets

Spaniard David Ferrer needed a tiebreaker in the third set of his match against Netherlands’ Igor Sijsling, but hung on to to advance to the next round at the 2012 U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows by the score of 6-2, 6-3, 7-6(12).

Ferrer was in total control of the match during the first two sets, needing just 26 minutes to beat Sijsling in the first set. He cruised through the second as well, but began to struggle in the third, needing an hour and five minutes to complete the tiebreaker 14-12.

Ferrer finished the day winning four of the 13 break points he faced. He had and up-and-down day with his serve as well, scoring six aces on the day but added five double faults. Ferrer also had 20 unforced errors compared to 43 from Silsling.

Ferrer will now face the winner between Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt and Luxembourg’s Gilles Muller.
