2012 U.S. Open Tennis Scores: Laura Robson Beats Na Li, Advances To Round Of 16

18-year-old Laura Robson of Great Britain continues her unlikely charge through the U.S. Open, besting No. 9 Na Li of China, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-2. The victory sends Robson on to advance to the Women’s Round of 16.

Robson won the match with a third-set rally that saw the youngster win five straight games, overcoming a 2-1 deficit in the third set on the strength of four aces in the final four games. Robson won just 6-of-17 break points in the match but won an incredible 83 percent of first-serve points.

The surprising young player had progressed past the first round only once so far in her career and has now beaten two top 25 players, No. 23 Kim Clijsters and No. 9 Li on her way to an incredible berth in the Round of 16. She’ll have an even tougher test there, however, as she is scheduled to face No. 7 Samantha Stosur of Austrailia, who bested No. 31 Varvara Lepchenko in the third round.
