U.S. Open 2012 Scores: Novak Djokovic Cruises Into Third Round

Novak Djokovic needed just 99 minutes to beat Rogerio Dutra Silva of Brazil in his second-round matchup at the U.S. Open. Djokovic won in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-1, 6-2. Djokovic broke Dutra Silva on his first serve to go up 2-0 in the first set, and then an unforced error by the Brazilian forced a second break point. Dutra Silva then got broken on his first serve in the second set and fell behind 3-0 in the third set, as Djokovic never let up throughout the match.

Djokovic won a dominant 90% of his first service points, compared to 54% for Dutra Silva. Djokovic also managed to land six break points (although it did take 16 attempts) to swing the match decisively in his favor. Dutra Silva also committed 36 unforced errors to Djokovic’s 14 and managed only 17 winners to Djokovic’s 29.

Djokovic will move on and face the winner of Julien Benneteau of France and Dennis Novikov of the United States in the third round.
