U.S. Open 2012 Scores: Andy Murray Defeats Feliciano Lopez In Grueling Match

Andy Murray beat Feliciano Lopez at the 2012 U.S. Open, surviving a grueling match with three tie-breakers in the final set.

Murray won in four sets, 7-6, 7-6, 4-6 and 7-6. It was the second year in a row that Murray eliminated Lopez in the second round.

Lopez won more total points, 162 to 154, had more aces, 18 to 16, and was ahead in first-serve points, winning 86 percent to Murray’s 74 percent. Murray was ahead in unforced errors, 68 to 53, and committed fewer double faults, seven to four, and was finally able to put Lopez away after nearly four hours.

Murray will next face either James Blake or No. 15 seed Milos Raonic, depending on the outcome of their match.
