Serena Williams and Roger Federer love playing at the US Open. Today, the three-time champ Williams, dispatched of opponent Ekaterina Makarova [RUS] in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. Per usual, the five-time champion Federer had no problem taking out Fernando Verdasco [ESP] in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

Federer will take on American Mardy Fish on Monday after Fish won his match against Gilles Simon on Saturday, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3. Fish looked to be having issues with a possible groin injury in his match.
After having home-field advantage when he placed second at Wimbledon and scored an Olympic gold medal, the change of venue has posed no problem to this point, but Spain’s Feliciano Lopez gave Murray a scare. Three of the four sets went to tie-break with the third-ranked Murray taking each one. After the first two 7-6, 7-6 set wins, Murray would drop a set 6-4 to Lopez. With new life, Lopez would take what would be the final set against Murray to a tie-break with Murray eventually winning the set 7-6 and ultimately the match.
Aside from Serena and Fish, it wasn’t a great day for Americans at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Future-star Sloan Stephens took 12th ranked opponent Ana Ivanovic to a tie-break in the first set and won. Ivanovic would come back and take the next two sets 6-4, 6-2, sending Stephens home. Jack Sock would take Spain’s Nicolas Almagro to a tie-break in the first three sets, with Almagro winning two of the three 7-6. The extra tennis may have been too much for Sock as he lost the final set 6-1. James Blake lost in straight sets to Canada’s Milos Raonic 6-3, 6-0, 7-6.
No. 2 ranked Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland breezed her way into the next round with a straight set victory over no. 30 Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.
The upset of the day comes from the match of 14th ranked Maria Kirilenko of Russia against un-ranked Andrea Hlavackova from the Czech Republic. Kirilenko would win the first set 7-5, but the rest of the match belonged to Hlavackova, winning her final two sets 6-4.
