2012 U.S. Open Scores: Novak Djokovic Easily On To The Fourth Round

Novak Djokovic was faced with his first ranked opponent at the U.S. Open on Sunday, squaring off against No. 31 Julien Benneteau in the third round in Flushing Meadow. But it was more of the same for Djokovic, who blasted past the Frenchman in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in just over an hour and a half.

Djokovic, the men’s draw’s second ranked player, has yet to drop a set at the U.S. Open, cruising by two unranked opponents in the first two rounds, but it was expected that Benneteau would give the Serbian a tougher test. But Djokovic’s 41 winners against just 12 unforced errors proved too much for Benneteau, who could only must 15 winners on the day.

Djokovic was also strong on his serve, rocketing 13 aces past Bennetau and did not face a break point during the afternoon match.

Djokovic will face either No. 14 Alexandr Dolgopolov or No. 18 Stanislas Wawrinka in the fourth round.
