Samantha Stosur defeated Laura Robson in straight sets on Sunday, winning 6-4, 6-4 in the fourth round of the 2012 U.S. Open.

Stosur, the defending champion at the event, beat Robson despite a late comeback by the 18-year-old tennis phenom from Great Britain in which she evaded nine match points before finally going down in defeat. The first set was a quick one, ending in 37 minutes. But Robson hung around for 61 minutes in the second set, prompting multiple unforced errors by her opponent.
In all, however, Stosur dominated Robson statistically, committing 24 errors compared to Robson’s 41. She also finished with six aces compared to two for her opponent.
Stosur will next take on the winner of the fourth round match between top-ranked Victoria Azarenka and Anna Tatishvili.
