The veteran got the better of the youngster Sunday evening at the U.S. Open when Marion Bartoli upset Petra Kvitova 1-6, 6-2, 6-0 to take down the No. 5 seed.

It looked like Kvitova might simply run away with it after an impressive all-around showing in her first set but by the end, the 22-year-old had visibly unraveled with 29 total unforced errors. And when Kvitova’s frustration began to show, Bartoli would take her game to another level, showing near tactical perfection in the second and third sets.
By the end, Bartoli was in complete control winning 12 of the last 13 games and 25 of 32 possible points in the third set.
With the win, Bartoli advances to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open for the first time in her career. Kvitova’s loss also means that no woman will reach the quarterfinals at every major this year.
