2012 U.S. Open Tennis Results: Andy Roddick, David Ferrer Advance; Laura Robson Falls

USA’s Andy Roddick defeated Fabio Fognini of Italy on Sunday to move on in 2012 U.S. Open Tennis Championship, where he will face Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro in hopes of delaying his retirement for just one more round. Roddick took advantage of unforced errors by Fognini to regain his energy and win the final set of the match.

No. 5 Petra Kvitova was upset by veteran Marion Bartoli on Sunday, with the 22-year old showed visible frustration and lost 12 of the last 13 games of the match and was cleanly dominated in the final set. Bartoli will face No. 3 Maria Sharapova in the Round of 16, who defeated No. 19 Nadia Petrova of Russia on Sunday evening.

Young British phenom Laura Robson saw her tournament end on Sunday, falling to defending champion Samantha Stosur after unforced errors and inexperience finally caught up to her. Stosur will face No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in the next round.

No. 4 David Ferrer of Spain suffered a bit of a scare on Sunday against Lleyton Hewitt before winning the match in four sets, taking advantage of the Australian’s 72 unforced errors. Ferrer will take on No. 13 Richard Gasquet next.
