Heavy rains washed out Tuesday night’s primetime matches at the 2012 U.S. Open, pushing showdowns involving Andy Roddick, Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova into Wednesday morning. Roddick, the No. 20 seed on the men’s side, will continue his match with the seventh-seeded Juan Martin del Potro sometime after 12:30 p.m. ET. The match will pick up with Roddick leading del Potro 1-to-0 in a first set tiebreak.
U.S. Open TV Schedule: Roddick, Djokovic Resume Matches Wednesday Morning
Meanwhile, Djokovic, the defending champion, will be continuing his match with Stanislas Wawrinka at about the same time. When that match was called off on Tuesday night, Djokovic was leading Wawrinka two games to none in the first set. Eighth-seeded Janko Tipsarevic will also be continuing a match in the early afternoon on Wednesday. He will pick things back up with a lead of five games to two in his first set against No. 19 seed Phillipp Kohlschreiber.
The starting times of those three matches depend on when the matches ahead of them, which all begin at 11 a.m. ET, finish. Roddick, playing in Arthur Ashe Stadium, will be awaiting the finish of Maria Sharapova vs. Marion Bartoli. Sharapova, the third seed on the women’s side, will resume that match down four games to none in the first set. Djokovic will be awaiting the end of a single’s match between Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, while Tipsarevic will have to wait for the conclusion of a double’s match.
Andy Murray, third seed on the men’s side, will take to Arthur Ashe Stadium late in the afternoon at the conclusion of Roddick’s match.
ESPN2 will have Open coverage from noon through 11 p.m. ET. The Tennis Channel will supplement that coverage from 10:30 a.m. through 7 p.m. ET.
