The Australian Open, the year’s first Grand Slam tennis tournament, gets going on Sunday from Melbourne, Australia, with several big names on both the men’s and women’s sides looking for a title to start 2013.

Two-time defending men’s singles champion Novak Djokovic will be the top seed and faces Paul-Henri Mathieu in the first round. Roger Federer and Andy Murray both landed on the other side of the field, partially clearing the path for Djokovic.

Victoria Azarenka holds the top spot for the women. She gets Monica Niculescu first and is on track for a potential semifinal match with Serena Williams. Williams has defeated Azarenka 11 out of 12 times.

The Australian Open champions will be crowned on Jan. 27 after about two weeks of play. You can follow the action on TV or watch online. The official website of the Australian Open will stream much of the action, and so will ESPN3.com, beginning Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. ET.
