The men’s field is set for the quarterfinals of the 2013 Australian Open, as the bottom half of the draw completed round-of-16 play on Day 8 in Melbourne. Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga all moved through to the quarterfinals, with Frenchman Jeremy Chardy joining them as the fourth member on the bottom half of the bracket.
Australian Open 2013 bracket update: Roger Federer, Andy Murray advance to quarterfinals
The quarterfinals are set at the Australian Open, with both Roger Federer and Andy Murray advancing in straight sets on Day 8 in Melbourne.

While it took No. 1 Novak Djokovic five sets and five hours to advance to the quarters one day earlier, Federer and Murray had no such trouble. Federer closed the action at Rod Laver Arena by defeating Milos Raonic, 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-2. The 17-time major winner handled the big serve of Raonic to advance to the quarterfinals at his 35th consecutive Grand Slam. Federer has won the Aussie Open four times, and reached at least the semifinals every year since 2004.
Federer will have to get past Tsonga in order to keep that streak alive. An unseeded Tsonga advanced all the way to the Aussie Open finals in 2008 before falling to Djokovic, but he’s improved his game significantly over that time. He defeated fellow Frenchman Richard Gasquet, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, to advance and set up the clash with Federer. Tsonga has upset Federer before in a Slam, winning in the quarters at Wimbledon in 2011.
Like Federer, Murray advanced in straight sets by swiftly defeating Gilles Simon, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3. Simon provided little resistance for the defending U.S. Open champ, and Murray even went so far as to say, “It didn’t feel like that competitive.” Murray will now be a heavy favorite against an unseeded Chardy, who defeated Italian Andreas Seppi in four sets to get to the quarters.
