Australian Open 2013 bracket update: Roger Federer, Andy Murray advance to semifinals
Roger Federer needed five sets to get past Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals in Melbourne, but he’s through to the semis for the 10th straight year.

Federer and Tsonga have clashed in the late stages of a Grand Slam event before, and it was expected to be the closest men’s quarterfinal match. Federer was challenged by the Frenchman throughout, but he prevailed, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3. Tsonga, a former finalist at the Aussie Open, has upset the former No. 1 at a major in the past, but Federer broke him in the fourth game of the final set and rolled into the semis.
Federer, a 17-time Slam winner, is in the semifinals for the 10th straight year at the Aussie. He’ll now get Murray, who wrapped up the day session at Rod Laver Arena by defeating unseeded Jeremy Chardy, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2. The defending U.S. Open champion has not dropped a set in his first five matches in Melbourne and had his serve broken for just the second time during the tournament. With Murray serving for the match, Chardy fought off the Briton and broke in the third set. But it didn’t take long for Murray to close out, as he promptly broke Chardy on his ensuing serve to take the match and advance to the semis.
Federer and Murray will now meet on Day 12 in Melbourne, while No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 4 David Ferrer will play on Day 11 in the other semifinal at the top of the bracket.
