Maria Sharapova wins 2013 BNP Paribas Open

Maria Sharapova is the 2013 BNP Paribas Open champion, dominating Caroline Wozniacki in the women’s final, 6-2, 6-2. It’s her second career championship at Indian Wells.

Sharapova has had Wozniacki’s number in the past, and Sunday’s performance was no different. The 25-year-old Russian dominated the match from beginning to end, never allowing Wozniacki to get into it. The match was over in less than 90 minutes, as Sharapova barely broke a sweat winning the title.

Sharapova will take home the million dollar prize money and add another trophy to her already impressive mantle. Currently ranked No. 3 in the world, she has a shot to climb up to No. 2 behind Serena Williams after Victoria Azarenka withdrew from the tournament. As for Wozniacki, the 22-year-old Dane will likely move up from her current No. 10 ranking for making the finals. She will take home $500,000 dollars for her efforts.

The BNP Paribas Open wraps up later on Sunday, when Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro square off for the men’s title.
