Day three of the 2013 Sony Open is winding down, and we have our first significant upset. Fresh off an appearance in the finals at Indian Wells against Rafael Nadal, No. 5 seed Juan Martin Del Potro made a quick exit in Miami, losing in his opening match to Germany’s Tobias Kamke.

No. 1 Novak Djokovic was victorious on Friday, but the man who bested him at Indian Wells, Juan Martin Del Potro, was upset by Tobias Kamke.

Del Potro was clearly out of it from the beginning, though he did manage to take the first set to a tiebreak. Unfortunately for the Argentine, that tiebreak went to Kamke. By the second set, Del Potro had lost all of his steam, and in the end, Kamke won. 7-6(5), 6-1.
Kamke advances to the third round, where he’ll take on Jurgen Melzer next.
No. 1 Novak Djokovic was in action on Friday night, and he made quick work of his opponent, Lukas Rosol. Djokovic dominated the entire match, winning 6-1, 6-0, wrapping it all up in just under 54 minutes. It was Djokovic’s first match since losing to Del Potro at Indian Wells.
Another one of the later matches was between No. 11 seed Gilles Simon and Lleyton Hewitt, a two-time Grand Slam winner. Hewitt entered this tournament as a wild card, but had nothing to offer the Frenchman, falling, 6-3, 6-3.
On the WTA side, No. 3 Maria Sharapova was victorious over wildcard Eugenie Bouchard, 6-2, 6-0. Six seed Angelique Kerber took down Francesca Schiavone after battling through losing the first set, ultimately winning 6(5)-7, 6-3, 6-2. Lastly, No. 11 seed Nadia Petrova took out Jie Zheng, 6-5, 6-1.
