Sony Open Tennis 2013 results: Serena Williams, Andy Murray win on Saturday

No. 1 seed Serena Williams was victorious on the WTA side Saturday, while ATP No. 2 seed Andy Murray also won his matchup.

Day five at the 2013 Sony Open is winding down, and there was plenty of action, though it was lacking the drama of day four. That is to say, there were no significant upsets on Saturday, while Friday saw the departure of No. 5 seed Juan Martin Del Potro.

Still, there were top players in action on the day. In earlier action, No. 2 seed Andy Murray was victorious in his matchup against Bernard Tomic, 6-3, 6-1. The next-highest seed on the day, No. 4 Tomas Berdych, was victorious, though he struggled quite a bit more than Murray did.

Berdych fell in the first set, but came back to win a narrow tiebreak in the second set, and ended up finishing off Daniel Gimeno-Traver with a dominating third set. In the end, Berdych won that matchup 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-2. No. 8 Richard Gasquet, No. 10 Nicolar Almagro, No. 6 Jo-Wilfriend Tsonga and No. 14 Milos Raonic all won their matches, too.

As far as some of the later matchups are concerned, the top seeds were victorious as well. No. 20 John Isner was victorious on the day, beating Ivan Dodig 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(5). No. 25 Fernando Verdasco fell victim to a minor upset, losing to Alejandro Falla 6-3, 7-6(6). Verdasco began a comeback in the second set and had a 6-0 lead in the tiebreak, before falling behind and eventually losing.

On the WTA side, No. 1 Serena Williams was in action, and after falling down 3-1 to Ayumi Morita in the first set, she stormed back to win the entire match 6-3, 6-3, advancing to the next round.
