Sony Open Tennis 2013: Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer in action Sunday

Some of the top seeds at the Sony Open will be in action on Sunday, including No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 3 David Ferrer.

Round 3 of the ATP Singles at the 2013 Sony Open is set to get underway on Sunday. Round two saw a high seed in No. 5 Juan Martin Del Potro eliminated, but the rest of the top guys have survived into the third round. From here on out though, the matchups only get tougher.

No. 1 Novak Djokovic should be pretty comfortable on Friday, however. He’ll be in the stadium in the late afternoon, taking on unranked Somdev Dewarman of India. No. 3 David Ferrer, who advanced to round three after his second round opponent was out with an injury, will take on No. 32 Fabio Fognini to get the day started in the stadium. It will be Ferrer’s first matchup of the tournament.

The big matchups in the grandstand include No. 7 Janko Tipsarevic taking on No. 26 Kevin Anderson and No. 13 Kei Nishikori taking on Xavier Malisse. Both of those matches are expected to take place before the evening. You’ll also be able to find No. 11 Gilles Simon taking on unranked Grega Zemlja on Court One.

On the WTA side, No. 6 Angelique Kerber will take on No. 28 Sorana Cirstea in the stadium. Immediately after that, but before the Djokovic match, No. 3 Maria Sharapova will take on No. 29 Elena Vesnina.
