Day 3 at the 2013 BNP Paribas Open marks the first time that spectators will get to see seeded players in action, as the second round opens in the women’s draw. Second-seeded Maria Sharapova faces an interesting match against Francesca Schiavone, the world’s No. 47 player and a former French Open champion. Agnieszka Radwanska, the third seed in the women’s draw, will square off with wild-card qualifier Maria Sanchez in the evening’s primetime match. No. 13 Maria Kirilenko takes on New Jersey’s own Christina McHale. The No. 5 seed Petra Kvitova, No. 6 seed Sara Errani, and No. 9 seed Marion Bartoli are also in action.

On the men’s side, the first round concludes with 16 matches. James Blake, who was a wild-card qualifier for the Paribas Open, faces world No. 47 Robin Haase on Friday afternoon in Stadium 1. Fabio Fognini, the top-rated men’s player in action Friday, takes on 23-year-old Slovenian Aljaz Bedene.

The late-night match features top-rated doubles tandem Bob and Mike Bryan against Marin Cilic and Jonathan Erlich.
